Should actually desirable leadership be locked into a position that ultimately will not matter? If you look at the track record of all of us as ambassadors, including myself, is there anything we accomplished you would say is a 'great feat and to be remembered for all of history?' It is a position given to us out of pity where we can accomplish some things, but not much that matter in the grand scheme.
But if someone wished to remain an ambassador indefinitely, they could always run for the term again.
Come now, my friend, you are far too modest. Of course our hosts intended the Ambassador to be a ceremonial position, a distraction from our problems, but strong leaders like you and Revan have proven it can be a platform for accomplishment in the hands of someone with vision. You certainly left Maurtia Falls a more prosperous and cultured place, just as he heightened its defences in crucial areas.
[This isn't just flattery- the Count genuinely is a fan of Baelish's library, and acknowledges the role Helix Station has played in saving imPorts during times of crisis.]
Vital and helpful structures, mind you. But in essence, it was all we were able to do within the city. I would say the greatest accomplishment we made as ambassadors was aiding Kaneki in getting his bill passed. But even that took all three ambassadors to accomplish.
I would agree with you on that point. It would be a tragedy if imPorts like Kaneki still were forced to Register simply to feed themselves within the law.
It would, of course, be preferable if a single Ambassador was able to achieve more. But consider if one of those three had been more in thrall to the government. That bill would never have passed. Clearly, who fills the position has some manner of impact.
There is a certain truth to the matter. And we are getting to the point where the government is starting to share things with us to tell the imPort community. Hopefully a trend that continues.
[ It's a slow game to build the trust, but the reward at the end will be monumental. ]
Hopefully, yes. Yet I would not count sharing information that leads to us fighting their battles for them yet again as any significant victory. Only when they begin sharing information that leads to real change for our community will I allow myself optimism.
