You will learn more about her soon enough. She believes as you and I do: that imPorts should not fear control by the natives.

Lord Baelish, however... I examined his Network postings, once I learned he was to be my opponent. It appears he is quite critical of imPorts who speak out against the authorities here. He favours collaboration.

If and when the day comes for you to rise against the Porter, it is difficult to imagine him standing with you... unless you know something about his motivations that I don't.

He suggests he does. He doesn't realize, I think, how little the "authorities" care about this place. Where he's from, I imagine the crown jumps at every little rumor, has spies everywhere. I think he neglects to consider just how little the authorities here care about our small talk.

In fact, I imagine I could go on the network right now and declare I intend to rebel against America, and I doubt I'd get as much as a surprise audit.

You keep your true motivations closer to your chest than most, Count. I'm sure you know a manipulator when you see one.

But that said, you have my attention. You really must introduce me to this friend of yours, she sounds like a keeper.

Indeed I do. But I do not doubt the validity of Baelish's suspicions... only the fearful conclusions he has drawn from them. I am certain such a post from you would go unopposed, because it could be made to serve their purposes. Surely you've noticed how they use the threat of chaos as justification to expand their control.

But that can be discussed later. I would be happy to arrange a meeting between you and the Hierophant, so that you may judge her for yourself. All I ask in return is that you keep an open mind regarding which candidates you support in the election. Your backing would be most valuable to me, and to the cause of change for imPorts.

You're paranoid as well. Don't worry. Give it a few years and you'll be just as dulled to the whole thing as some of the rest of us.

And my mind is open, I assure you. I haven't decided who to give my backing to yet.

I will consult with the Hierophant and make the proper arrangements. I am quite certain that with support from beings like yourself, within a few years this world can be transformed into one where imPorts will have no need of paranoia... from any source.
